1Orion Span’s ‘Luxury Space Hotel’ Is Taking Reservations. You are reading correctly. A twelve-day stay starts at nine and a half million dollars! It is a bargain price considering that it has historically cost twenty to fifty million to get into orbit. First guests could be as early as 2022, though they will have to start training three months before their launch date. Anyone who has been following 8 Good Things knows how excited I am about this. Still working on manifesting my intention to go into space during my lifetime. Eighty thousand dollars will get you on the waitlist, which is now open!
2Queen’s New Horizons. Speaking of space. If you saw Bohemian Rhapsody this year, you will have learned that Queen’s lead guitarist, Brian May, studied to be an astrophysicist. Well, at the turn of the year, Brian honored his science roots by doing a musical tribute to NASA’s twelve-year New Horizons journey as it set out to do the most distant spacecraft flyby in history, some four billion miles from Earth.
352 Places to Go in 2019. A starter kit to escaping into the world this year. Santa Barbara, which is just up the coast from me, is number three on the list. It is considered the American Riviera. If you have never been there, it is worth the trip. One of my favorite summers was spent in SB taking French classes in the morning and sailing lessons in the afternoon. It was when I first came to California, just as I turned twenty. Las Vegas is listed as number thirteen. Personally, unless you have a reason to go there, like a convention, I would either skip this one or bundle it with a trip to Santa Barbara afterward. Las Vegas is a super fun place to lose your mind for about 48 hours. Then you are done because you have not slept. Surprisingly, New York is thirty-one and Los Angeles forty-one, respectively, on the list. Another surprise is seeing Columbus—which is in my childhood home State of Ohio—at number forty-seven! At fifty-two is Tahiti, where I spent one magical New Year’s on the island of Bora Bora.
